Pilsen inextricably belongs to the stormy youth of the prominent Czech composer (and former high school repeater) Bedřich Smetana - the cousin of Josef František Smetana, an important Pilsen personality of political, cultural and scientific life and the Czech national revival in Pilsen. Bedřich Smetana not only tried to complete his secondary education in Pilsen, but above all, as a skilled pianist and sought-after dancer and companion, he was the decoration of many parties. After all, Pilsen occupies a significant space in his diaries. And Smetana has a permanent place in Pilsen - however, there is the Smetanovská dny festival, the International Smetana Piano Competition, he has that street... (Watch out, not the orchards, those are his cousins!)
That is why Pilsen's Divadlo ALFA will prepare a club piece in the Year of Czech Music as its extraordinary project, which touches on the life and work of this important Czech composer of the Romantic period. We do not doubt that Smetana is the founder of modern Czech music and a leading representative of national culture in general, and that he significantly influenced the following generations of Czech composers. We know that he was a founding member of the Artistic Forum and chairman of its music department. However, we also want to remind you that he was also a normal naughty boy, a frivolous teenager, a not very good, but often in love student... And among other things, he was also the author of the overture to a puppet play by the legendary Czech puppeteer Matěj Kopecky.
