Don't worry, the new Christmas fairy tale will not be missing Baby Jesus. However, it’s true that the main character will be someone much more modest, but without whom the Nativity scene by the Christmas tree wouldn’t be complete...
The Christmas story returns to the ALFA Theater after some time. This time it’s an original script commissioned and written by actor and occasional playwright Martin Matejka, titled Bethlehem star Superstar.
Although everything naturally leads up to the main event of the Christmas show, the birth of Baby Jesus, the real star of our story will be – the star. The comet that modestly adorns the stable where Baby Jesus was born. This small and only a few tens of thousands of years young comet is not wanted by Vega in the celestial band, so the little star tries her luck on Earth. And lo and behold, things are in chaos here, as the angels have tasked a certain Luke and Matthew to take care of Joseph and Mary, who are on their way to Bethlehem. But how are they supposed to manage everything? Fortunately, there’s our little star! She finds them accommodation, tames an angry ram, and also locates the Three Kings. One is old, one is small, and the third only has a racing camel and is the king of the roads. And all of them are lonely. Luckily, they meet during their journey to follow the star and to see Baby Jesus, who doesn’t want anyone to be alone at the time of his birth. She may just be a modest little comet – but without her, the Nativity scene wouldn’t be complete, and neither would the Christmas story and its message of human togetherness.
Director and actor Peter Varga from the Prague theater company Lokvar will be making his debut at ALFA Theater, although he is already familiar with the ensemble. And since the play will feature string marionettes, the actors of ALFA will have the opportunity to showcase their exceptional puppeteering skills.
